A Study on the Relationship Between Biorhythm and Accidents

Abstract
In order to investigate, on the basis of the theory of biorhythm into the correlation between the critical days of biorhythm and the occurrence of accidents in humans, the authors carried out this study on 170 male and female patients who came to the emergency room of Kangnam St. Mary¢¥s Hospital, Catholic University Medical College, Seoul, as the results of accidents due to their carelessness from the begir.ning of December 1985 to end of April 1986.
Of the 170 subjects, the number of patients who had accidents in ¢¥their critical days of biorhythm was 84 persons or 49.41%. The analysis of the expected frequency in the 170 patients calculated based Dn their cycles of biorhythm-physical, emotional, and intellectual-revealed that the actual frequency was much higher than the expected frequency, showing a significant statistical difference (X2 = 136.02;df = 7;p<0.01).
Through this study, it can be concluded that there is no relation between critical days of biorhyt m and accidents and that the systematic evidence based on biorhythm is not useful for predicting the occ rrence of accidents. However, in view of the fact that a not negligible large number of people believe in the predictability of human behaviors, further study from various angles is thought to be necessary.
